WiFi Range Extender - Fix Skype Problems

Many of the well aired problems with Skype can be fixed with a WiFi range extender. Because Skype is a bandwidth intensive application, drop outs and broken conversations are inevitable penalties to be paid for using an old 802.11 b/g router at the fringe of it's range. The good news is that extenders are typically an inexpensive solution to these problems.

An even better solution than hunting down the best WiFi antenna or range extender is to install a long range router. WiFi routers are a potentially Skype's weakest link. It's worth investing a little extra to get a credible Skype router or upgrading to N mode via a TRENDnet 300 Mbps Wireless Easy-N-Upgrader (TEW-637AP).

Fortunately, N mode wireless routers are backwards compatible with older equipment, so existing WiFi networks can be progressively updated on a suck it and see basis.

An additional bonus is that N mode routers don't interfere with cordless phones using the 2.4 GHz frequency.
