Which VoIP Dialer?

A VoIP dialer is an attractive option for several reasons that in the end all come back to cost.

1. There is no requirement for expensive telephony boards and controllers. The main prerequisite is access to a broadband connection.

2. Most include a softphone option, which means that handsets and associated devices are optional.

3. They use Internet telephony services such as Skype, Jajah, Google Talk ... or SIP trunking, which means that call charges are much cheaper than regular PSTN rates.

Most commercial auto dialers and predictive dialers are capable of using either VoIP or PSTN networks. Some commercial options including the Voicent Predictive Dialer were specifically developed to use Skype or other such services.

For the persistent and technically inclined with lots of spare time on their hands, there are also opensource predictive dialer options including ShadyDial and GnuDialer.

Outside of the telemarketing space, special interest groups and associations clearly have a requirement for a simple PC phone dialer that can make large volumes of calls to a list or database of names at a nominal cost. The objective is to get information to opt-in members who may not have regular access to email, but can be contacted by phone. They are a much more cost effective option than a modem dialer.

Personal telephone dialer options are typically Windows based and access VoIP services via one or more of the major ITS providers. There are hundreds of freeware phone dialers available for download from the Web.
