Does Uniden Make the Best Cordless Phones?

The Uniden DECT 6.0 cordless phone range is enormous. Uniden telephones compete directly with Panasonic cordless telephones. They are the dominant manufacturers of DECT 6.0 phones, but which of them makes the best cordless phones?

What are DECT 6.0 Phones?

DECT is the global standard for secure cordless communication. DECT 6.0 phones use the 1.9 GHz protected cordless phone frequency. It is an open standard enabling interoperability between different products and vendors. DECT is immune to interference from almost any other wireless signal.

Irrespective of brand DECT 6.0 cordless phones can be expected to have a range of up to 450 meters in free space and at least 50 meters when the base station is located in a building. Similarly, all DECT phones are frugal consumers of power. Base stations typically use less than 3W of operating power with handsets using AAA rechargeable batteries providing up to twelve hours of talk time and one week of standby. (These times will obviously vary depending on the condition of the batteries and their chemistry).

Uniden DECT Phones

Cordless phone frequencies other than DECT are implemented in different ways by different manufacturers. As a result there are significant differences in how 900MHz, 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz cordless phones operate. That's not the case with DECT phones, which are more or less identical except for variations in style, color and price.

Panasonic DECT 6.0 Phones

Panasonic is seriously challenged by the Uniden DECT offering. It's impossible to say which company makes the best products. Technically they are almost identical. Feel free to make a decision based on color, style, branding and price.

The stand-off between Panasonic and Uniden is paralleled in the 2 line cordless phone space. Panasonic 5.8 GHz multi line cordless phone systems dominate the small business 2 and 4 line cordless phone segment, but are challenged by highly competitive Uniden 5.8 GHz phones including the TRU9466. At this stage Uniden has chosen not to follow Panasonic in releasing DECT two line cordless phones.
