Panasonic's latest 2 line cordless phone is the KX-TG938T. It's a DECT 6.0 phone pitched at the same market as it's predecessor. Consumers have taken to it enthusiastically. There was significant pent up demand because DECT 6.0 two line phones did not become widely available for some 2-3 years after DECT 6.0 phones had become the de-facto cordless home phones.
Panasonic tends to update it's strategic products over a longer life cycle than its competitors. They also incorporate proprietary enhancements that differentiate them from the rest. For example Night or Silent mode enables users to silence the ringers on specified handsets between scheduled hours.
Another feature that will become standard on all cordless phones in years to come is the ability to transfer phone books from cell phones. It's a feature that a number of high end Panasonic cordless phones support. The KX-TG938T is expandable up to six handsets and calls can also be answered via Bluetooth headsets. All handsets incorporate a 2.5mm headset jack and use standard re-chargeable AAA batteries.
Uniden 2 Line Cordless Phones
Uniden has the most extensive range of 5.8 GHz 2 line cordless phones. Not content with one flagship product, it manufactured many variations on the theme to address almost every conceivable requirement.
The 5.8 GHz phone that most directly competed with the Panasonic KX-TG6702B was the Uniden TRU9496, however it has now been superseded by a DECT 2 line cordless phone.
The DECT4096 is currently the top rated two line cordless phone. It's a corded cordless phone and hence can be used even during a power outage, it's also expandable up to ten handsets. Anyone familiar with using pre-DECT 6.0 phones will be very impressed with the battery life of these units.
Uniden has done an excellent job of the multi-line implementation. A default line can be nominated for each handset. If the line engaged when calling out, it's a keystroke to switch lines. To prevent others from listening into calls from another extensions there is a "Private" option. The answering machine also stores messages based on the line a call came in on.
Bottom Line
From the perspective of overall usability it's hard to fault the Uniden two line cordless phone. Our only reservation is that it's not a Bluetooth cordless phone.
