DECT is a standard that uses the 1.9 GHz frequency in the U.S. and 1.8 GHz in the rest of the world. The FCC has mandated the 1.9GHz band for use exclusively by cordless phones, which means they are not susceptible to interference from other wireless devices.

Irrespective of brand, nearly all DECT phones have excellent range. Some cordless phone frequencies (1.9GHz and 2.4GHz) are better able to penetrate solid walls, but they are vulnerable to interference from WiFi, baby monitors, microwave ovens, scanners ...

DECT 6 phones require very little power to operate. As a consequence they will generally provide more talk / stand-by time between charges than other technologies. Another consequence is that they emit far less electromagnetic radiation (EMR) than either cell phones or other forms of cordless phone technology.

How about cost? The good news is that the best DECT phones are really cheap, so don't attempt to save a few dollars by buying an inferior brand. They are a commodity product based on an international standard. They can now be found in hundreds of millions of homes around the world.

Finally, which are the best cordless phone brands? Based on our experience there are only two brands that we would risk buying or recommending. They are Panasonic and Uniden. (BTW, we have no association with either company).
