Once a cell phone is paired with a Bluetooth gateway, it becomes possible for a cordless phone system to make and answer calls over a cellular network. On receiving an incoming call, it's no longer necessary to scramble about looking for the cell phone. Just pick up the closest cordless phone handset and speak.

Another benefit is the ability to use "free minutes" when calling out from a cordless phone. You may no longer need to pay for a landline once you have access to a Bluetooth cordless phone.
In areas of weak reception, cell phones can be strategically located so as to get the strongest signal. The only constraint is that they need to be within Bluetooth range, which is usually between 10 and 30 feet.
Bluetooth gateways can be connected to corded and cordless phones. They can also be connected to 900 MHz, 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz cordless phones, as well as DECT 6.0 phones. DECT is usually the best solution because of its freedom from interference, range and extended talk time. For further information see cordless phone frequencies.
A gateway is an inexpensive way of converting an existing DECT 6.0 cordless phones into a Bluetooth home phone.
