In selecting the best Skype phone there are three non-negotiable requirements:
1. Skype phone calls can be made without a computer.
2. It must be a DECT Skype cordless phone. Options using WiFi or other cordless phone frequencies often have problems with interference, battery life and range.
3. The phone must also be able to make either a Skype call or a regular PSTN phone call if required.

Both the GE Skype phone and the Philips Skype phone satisfy our minimum requirements and they are both ultra simple to setup and use. In the final analysis our preference is for the Philips option based on sound quality and the ergonomics of the handset.
When combined with Skype online phone numbers, Skype phones becomes a highly effective way of reducing or even eliminating phone bills. In our business we use Skype numbers instead of international 800 numbers. It's effective because we can use a Skype phone just like a regular cordless phone. We can also shut down our computers at night or on the weekend without fear of missing a call. If we are unavailable an email or text alert is sent to a cell phone letting us know we have Skype Voicemail. As a further bonus our friends, family and business associates can contact us when we are overseas for the cost of a local phone call.
We have closed our account with the local phone company. Instead we use a naked DSL service and an unlimited Skype calling subscription. As a result we can make local or international calls to landlines and cell phones from a Skype phone for next to nothing.
