Belkin Skype Phone: pros - cons and alternatives
The Belkin Skype phone targets a niche that is set for massive growth. It delivers the ability to make Skype calls without switching on or even owning a computer. As long as a Belkin WiFi phone can access a broadband connection it can be used to make Skype phone calls. There is no longer a requirement to be either tethered to a computer or to wear Skype headphones.

The Belkin Wi-Fi phone for Skype
is a well executed solution. It is a good looking device that can be easily taken for a cell phone. Furthermore it could not be easier to use. It comes pre-loaded with Skype and will automatically log onto a Skype phone service.
Surprisingly for a Skype phone it does not have a built in browser. That is not a problem when used as a home or office phone, but it's next to useless at WiFi hot spots and other locations, where a user is required to logon and authenticate. Battery life also becomes an issue when the unit is required to continuously scan for available WiFi networks.
We suspect that reviewers who report poor sound quality or drop outs may have bandwidth constraints. As with any VoIP phone service the weakest link is the broadband connection and router. Belkin wireless routers are some of the best, in particular we would recommend the Wireless N+ 802n router because of its signal strength and range.
Belkin Wi-Fi Phone for Skype - an alternative
The Belkin phone is an adequate home or small office Skype wireless phone, but there are alternatives that will provide a more reliable service. They include the
IPEVO S0-20.
It's the top selling Skype WiFi phone.
